Author’s note: Another week, another fun Flash Fiction Friday prompt from Sarah Faxon. For this edition I decided to combine both prompts: Prompt 1: Lightning strikes! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ No, really - lightning hits something or someone nearby ⚡️⚡️⚡️Prompt 2: Your character(s) can or can’t catch a break
The heavens opened before kickoff, quickly turning the field into slop. After getting our sorry asses ridden down to the five yard line, we stuffed three straight runs to make it fourth down.
“Watch the play action pass,” I said. “Don’t bite on the fake.”
Fanjoy bit on the fake. Poor bastard’d just recovered from a collapsed lung. He fell on his ass, leaving his man untouched for the score.
Then came the serpentine flash and deafening BOOM!
Fanjoy lay limp as a noodle.
Coach fumed. “Goddamn it, Lungboy, get up!” He was old school.
“Tape an aspirin to it!”

the next time I suffer any injury I think I’ll try taping an aspirin to it!
